about

Karin Drastik’s sculptures tell the story of her journey. They show how when we dare to get to know ourselves and to face our demons, sometimes even accepting them as part of ourselves, we can transform our lives. In fact it is often through great struggle that we develop the most into fulfilled individuals. Her work reflects her own evolution.

Some of the most important discoveries happen by accident. This holds true for Karin. She discovered sculpting totally by accident and adopted it as part of her own therapy – a method to express and work through her own battles. Over the years she grew more confident with her sculpting, and just as she evolved, so did her sculpting, from a therapy into a vocation. Karin has a natural talent in expressing emotion through her work – her pieces radiate a whole spectrum of her emotions: anger, confusion, fear, helplessness, courage, and joy.

Since 2009 Karin’s work developed through a 3-year sculpture course, followed by further sculpting seminars. She used the guidance as a framework in which to develop and find her direction. Slowly building confidence and developed her talent learning new techniques – and sharing the experience with the other participants. She has worked with stone, wood, clay, plaster and wire. Through this development she keeps returning to what she loves most – working with wax, which she later casts into bronze and aluminium sculptures. She has further developed her work with the patina, using the variations of the colours in bronze that highlight the expression of her sculptures.

Karin’s sculpting continues as a natural evolution of who she is.
